What To Do When Caught In A DUI Accident
Car accidents have constantly risen over the past few years. It’s not easy to pinpoint a list of causes to the recent accident statistics, there are far too many factors involved in the multitude of accidents that no one or two reasons can be singled out as the most probable cause.
Highway police are very strict about enforcing laws against driving when intoxicated. They monitor streets constantly just to check whether drivers are in proper mind states while on the road just to prevent DUI accident from occurring. Police use special tests like balance and coordination tests along with breath analyzing equipment for people they suspect to be intoxicated, but these tests alone cannot fully prevent DUI accident from occurring.
For the police officer to suspect a person for a DUI that person should first do something out of the ordinary like over speed or swerve irregularly, the problem is some people can drive convincingly well even when intoxicated which even though an impressive feat can easily be a DUI accident waiting to happen.
Discipline is a very key factor in addressing this issue. People should take responsibility and know well enough to keep away from the wheel when they are not in the proper state of being. A DUI accident is dealt with significant prejudice by the law and violators can be punished with hefty fines and even some much deserved jail time, on top of that most of the time drunk drivers do not only cause harm to themselves and their property they even cause harm and injuries to unsuspecting and otherwise innocent bystanders. Many people have lost their lives or loved ones over a DUI accident, what makes the whole event even more hard to swallow for victims is that the accident could have been easily avoided had proper responsibility been taken.
The good news is that despite of the horrors that a DUI accident can cause it is easily prevented through very simple precautions:
- If you have had a drink no matter the volume do not drive.
- If you know someone who has any type of intoxicating or impairing substance in his or her system do not allow them to drive.
- If you are going out of the house and you expect to be drinking appoint a designated driver who should remain alcohol free the whole time so he or she can bring you home safely and not be a hazard to anyone else.
- If you find yourself in a situation where you cannot shy away from a drink take a cab home and go back for your vehicle when you are sober.
